PGI representatives took part in the XI Russian-Norwegian Cross-Border Cooperation Days
On October 21, 2021 PGI representatives took part in the XI Russian-Norwegian cross-border cooperation days which were held in Nikel. The main goal of this event was to organize a meeting place for Russian and Norwegian representatives from the spheres of science, politics and business to enable them to discuss issues and prospects of mutually beneficial cooperation.
This year, due to the pandemic restrictions, the event was held in a hybrid format. However, the Consul General of Norway, Mrs. Astrid Naerum, specified that such changes did not affect the productive working atmosphere of the meetings.
The agenda of the meeting included a wide range of issues, and the major ones were devoted to climate change and environmental protection which are listed among the most urgent problems for all countries.
As is known, common problems require common solutions. The economic development of the North must be based on the capabilities of science as well as the environmental responsibility of businesses.
Within the meeting agenda, the director of PGI Boris Kozelov and the assistant director for international cooperation Elena Skiotis held a discussion with Natalya Polikarpova, the director of the State Nature Reserve Pasvik, focusing on the prospects for further cooperation, which began and is currently being carried out within the framework of the international project “Aurora Borealis Monitoring System for tourism business needs ” that is implemented with the financial support of Kolarctic CBC Program 2014-2020.
